Women’s Basketball Season Comes to a Close in Region 10 Quarterfinals

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team closes the season at 16-10 overall, 15-9 in conference play after traveling to Brunswick Community College for the Region 10 Championship Tournament. The Statesmen hosted Cleveland Community College in the first round of the tournament on Monday. Richard Bland advanced to the Quarterfinal round after defeating the Yetis 97-58.

 

With the first round win, the #6 seeded Statesmen were set to face the #3 Hurricanes of Louisburg College in the Quarterfinal round, who they had lost 71-76 to, less than a week prior. Thursday evening, Richard Bland took an early, one-point lead after the first period of play. After a back and forth battle through the second quarter, the Hurricanes took a 30-31 into the break. Richard Bland struggled offensively in the second half only tallying six in the third and 10 in the fourth, and eventually fell to the Hurricanes, 46-66.

 

Cierra McGinlay led the way for Richard Bland with 13 points and one rebound. Amari Hunter chipped in with eight points and two rebounds, while Kennedee Matthews and Khamaya Earley added six points each. Chamara Martin and Mercedes Gaither were credited with four points each. Gaither also added five rebounds. Nyomi Ndango tallied three points, and Natayvia Lipscomb two in the loss.

 

Richard Bland shot 50.0% from the charity stripe, 40.5% from the field, and 31.3% from the perimeter.
