Finnerty Ends Sea Devils’ Four Game Shutout Streak

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College women's soccer team moves to 0-5 overall, 0-4 in conference play after falling to conference leaders, Cape Fear Community College on the road Wednesday afternoon.

 

The Sea Devils got on the board early in the 6th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Cape Fear would tally four more times in the first half to hold a 5-0 lead at the half. Four minutes into the second half, the Sea Devils found the back of the net to increase their lead to 6-0. In the 65th minute, the Statesmen were fouled and Angelina Finnerty stepped up for the Richard Bland free kick. Finnerty lifted the ball over the keeper from about 35 yards out, to put the Statesmen on the board. Cape Fear would tally again and earn the 7-1 win over Richard Bland.

 

Rachel Fields was credited with 18 saves in regulation, 11 in the first half and seven in the second. Angelina Finnerty had three shots on goal, and Celissa Samora-Nixon one shot for the Statesmen offense. Fields is currently ranked #7 in the NJCAA in total saves with 80 through five games.

 

The Richard Bland women's soccer team next hosts USC Sumter on Friday, September 22nd in a non-conference contest. Kickoff is set for 11am.
