Richard Bland Names Caitlin Stout Athlete of the Week

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. – Richard Bland College freshman women's volleyball standout Caitlin Stout/Dinwiddie has been named the Athletics Department's Athlete of the Week for the period September 18-24.  The outside hitter helped the first-year program to its first victory last week, a 3-0 home win past Regent University on Sept. 21 by set scores of 25-15, 25-17 and 25-19.  Stout started five of six matches last week, posting 74 digs, eight kills, three blocks and two service aces in contests against Pitt (N.C.) (Sept. 18), Regent, Catawba Valley (N.C.) (Sept. 22), Louisburg (N.C.) (Sept. 22), Wake Tech (N.C.) (Sept. 23) and Guilford Tech (N.C.) (Sept. 23).  She has started seven of 10 matches for Richard Bland (1-9) during its inaugural season with 85 digs, 13 kills, five blocks, four services aces and one assist.  Caitlin is from nearby Dinwiddie and is a 2017 graduate of Dinwiddie High School where she played volleyball and softball

Q: How does it feel to be named Richard Bland Athlete of the Week?
CS: It's an honor because I have been working very hard, and I will continue to work even harder.

Q: How did you get started in your sport and how long have you played?
CS: I started playing as a freshman in high school because my brother, who was a senior at the time, was playing volleyball.

Q: What do you like most about your team?
CS: The standards that we are learning to hold each other to … we push each other to keep getting better.

Q: Who is your funniest teammate/why?
CS: Cassi Jencik … because she keeps me up and gets me to smile when I get frustrated.

Q: Do you have any pregame rituals/superstitions?
CS: I always have to say the Lord's Prayer and get hyped up to music. 

Q: What is your favorite place on campus/why?
CS: Statesman Hall, of course … because that's where I spend most of my time practicing and working on the court.

Q: What is your favorite class/professor/why?
CS: Psychology with Dr. Barbara M. Morgan (Associate Professor of Psychology).  She makes the class fun and interesting.
