Women’s Volleyball Opens Season at Cape Fear Invitational

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College women's volleyball team opened the season 3-1 overall, at the Cape Fear Community College Invitational over the weekend.

 

In match one, the Statesmen faced Walters State Community College, and opened the season with a 3-0 sweep. The set scores were as follows; 25-20, 25-13, and 26-24. On attack, Dryden Rancourt led with 13 kills followed by Sarah Heath with nine, Leilani Goggin with eight, and Mikayla Mitchell with five. Heath also added 15 digs, five service aces, and one block. Aubrey Hyndshaw chipped in with 16 digs, while Alexis Scipione added 29 assists, 13 digs, and three service aces.

 

In match two, the Statesmen faced St. Johns River State College, and fell 1-3. The set scores were as follows; 25-20, 25-27, 24-26, and 21-25. Sarah Heath and Dryden Rancourt led the attack with 23 and 15 kills respectively. Leilani Goggin also chipped in with 10. Aubrey Hyndshaw was credited with five service aces and nine digs, while Alexis Scipione had 54 assists and 21 digs, Heath had 16 digs, Rancourt 12 digs, and Jadyn Brown 10 digs.

 

In match three, the Statesmen faced USC Union, and defeated the Bantams 3-0. The set scores were as follows; 25-15, 25-11, and 25-7. Dryden Rancourt and Sarah Heath had 10 kills each. Alexis Scipione pitched in with 27 assists, seven service aces, and Heath added five digs to lead the Statesmen.

 

In their final match of the tournament, the Statesmen faced the Pioneers of Spartanburg Methodist College, and were victorious in a 3-1 win. The set scores were as follows; 25-19, 25-16, 21-25, and 25-21. Sarah Heath led the attack with 16 kills, followed by Dryden Rancourt with 14. Jordan Schlageter pitched in with five service aces and six digs. Alexis Scipione had 37 assists, while Aubrey Hyndshaw and Sarah Heath added 17 digs each.

 

The Richard Bland women's volleyball team next hosts Harford Community College on Wednesday, August 30th in a non-conference contest. The match will begin at 6pm.
