Women’s Volleyball Grabs Two Wins at Owens Tournament

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The #6 Richard Bland College women's volleyball team moves to 6-3 overall after traveling to Perrysburg, Ohio for the Owens Community College Tournament over the weekend.

 

In their first match, the Statesmen faced Vincennes University. The Statesmen put up a tough battle against the Trailblazers, but fell 0-3; 22-25, 19-25, and 25-27. Richard Bland's attack was led by Sarah Heath with 13 kills, followed by Dryden Rancourt with seven and Leilani Goggin with five. Aubrey Hyndshaw was credited with 15 digs and two service aces for the Statesmen. Heath followed with 11 digs, Rancourt with 10, and Alexis Scipione with nine and 28 assists.

 

In their second match of the tournament, Richard Bland rebounded and grabbed a 3-1 win over Muskegon Community College; 23-25, 25-10, 25-13, and 25-14. Heath and Rancourt led the attack with 16 and 10 kills respectively. Gabriella Figueroa added nine kills and Leilani Goggin six for the Statesmen. Alexis Scipione added 37 assists, nine digs, and three service aces. Aubrey Hyndshaw collected 12 digs, and Heath and Rancourt 10 each. Figueroa and Mikayla Mitchell also added one block each.

 

In their third match of the tournament, Richard Bland battled with the Cobras of #4 Parkland College, but dropped 0-3; 18-25, 20-25, & 18-25. The Statesmen attack was led by Heath and Rancourt once again with 11 and seven kills. Goggin, Figueroa, and Mitchell added three kills each. Scipione was credited with 25 assists and seven digs in the loss. Hyndshaw collected 15 digs, while Heath and Rancourt had 10 each.

 

In their final match of the tournament, Richard Bland took down tournament hosts Owens Community College, 3-0; 25-19, 25-16, & 25-9. On attack, Sarah Heath had 16 kills followed by Gabriella Figueroa with eight, Leilani Goggin with six, Mikayla Mitchell with five, and Jadyn Brown with four. Alexis Scipione collected 35 assists, 12 digs, and five services aces in the sweep. Aubrey Hyndshaw added 15 digs, Jadyn Brown had 11, and Heath was credited with 10.

 

The Richard Bland women's volleyball team next travels to Pitt Community College on Tuesday, September 5th for a 6pm contest.
