Women’s Volleyball Earns Six Spots on All-Region Teams, Player of The Year

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The #8 Richard Bland College Women's Volleyball team sits at 31-6 overall after defeating Fayetteville Technical Community College in the first round of the Region 10 Division II Tournament, defeating Cleveland Community College in the Semifinal round, and Cape Fear Community College in the Region 10 Division II Championship Saturday afternoon to punch their ticket the NJCAA National Tournament in Cedar Rapids, IA for the third year in a row. Prior to the start of the tournament, Richard Bland women's volleyball landed six spots on the Division II All-Region teams and Player of the Year for their success this season.

 

Sarah Heath and Leilani Goggin earned 1st team honors, while Jordan Schlageter, Alexis Scipione, and Mikayla Mitchell earned 2nd team. Jadyn Brown earned 3rd team honors. Heath has also earned Region 10 Player of the Year for her efforts this season.

 

In 37 matches played, sophomore outside/right side hitter, Sarah Heath leads the team in kills with 565, averaging 4.67 per set. Heath has also garnered 353 digs, 79 service aces, 10 blocks, and eight assists. Sarah is currently ranked #1 for kills in the NJCAA Division II individual statistics, and is #3 in kills per set.

 

In 36 matches played, sophomore outside hitter/middle blocker, Leilani Goggin is second on the team for kills with 311, averaging 2.64 kills per set. Goggin has also tallied 154 digs, 34 service aces, eight blocks, and six assists.

 

In 25 matches, sophomore setter, Jordan Schlageter has been credited with 287 assists, averaging 4.28 assists per set. Schlageter also has 94 digs, 23 service aces, 12 kills, and one block.

 

In 30 matches played, freshman setter, Alexis Scipione has tallied 1,036 assists, averaging 10.57 assists per set. Scipione has also added 246 digs, 69 service aces, 26 kills, and two blocks. Alexis is currently ranked #2 for assists per set in the NJCAA Division II individual statistics.

 

In 37 matches played, freshman middle blocker, Mikayla Mitchell is 4th on the team in kills with 154, averaging 1.29 kills per set. Mitchell has also added 13 digs, 10 blocks, and three assists.

 

In 37 matches played, sophomore outside/right side hitter, Jadyn Brown has managed 96 kills, averaging 0.87 kills per set. Brown has also tallied 203 digs, 60 service aces, 10 assists, and one block.

 

With the championship win, the #8 nationally ranked Statesmen have been named the Southeast District A Champion and receive an automatic bid to the national tournament. The NJCAA DII Women's Volleyball Tournament will be played at the Alliant Energy Powerhouse in Cedar Rapids, IA on November 15-18, 2023.
