No. 9 RICHARD BLAND CLAIMS EIGHT STRAIGHT WIN

PETERSBURG, Va. – The No. 9 Richard Bland men's basketball team claimed its eighth straight win on the season in a 92-64 win over Tidewater Community College on Wednesday evening. The Statesmen remain undefeated with victory while the Storm drop to 3-5 on the year.

Tavon Mealy (Richmond, VA) paced the Statesmen with 19 points while Brian Adkins (Aberdeen, MD) added season-high 11 points, following Reginald Moses (Henrico, VA) and Melvin Gregory (Weems, VA) who both tallied 10 points each.

Jonathan Howard led the Storm with 16 points while Ashley Lee added 14 points in the loss.

The Statesmen scored first in the contest with a layup by Mealy, following another layup by Evan Bates (Midlothian, VA) that would give RBC a 4-0 edge.

Tidewater would keep up with the Statesmen as they tied the game three times before RBC would pull away with a 34-24 lead heading into intermission.

The Statesmen would keep the momentum going as the second half got underway with a pair of buckets from Mealy.

Tidewater would find themselves in a deep whole midway through the second half as they allowed RBC to earn 23 points off of second chances and turned the ball over 31 times to the Statesmen's 25 which led to RBC's 36 points in return.

Just as things couldn't get any better for the Statesmen, sophomore Pedro Berrios (Hopewell, VA) who has not played all season due to a cardiac arrest he suffered in May subbed in for the first time at the 15:31 mark.

Berrios would drain a three-pointer at the 14:40 mark and another three-ball at the 9:24 mark. He would finish the game with 8 points in his debut.

The Statesmen will return to action on December 6^th when they host Catawba Valley Community College at 3 p.m.
