No. 9 RICHARD BLAND HANDLE CATAWBA VALLEY

PETERSBURG, Va. – The Richard Bland men's basketball team winning-streak continues to nine straight after defeating the Red Hawks of Catawba Valley, 90-70 on Saturday afternoon.  The Statesmen remain undefeated with the win and improve to 9-0 on the season while the Red Hawks slip to 4-6 on the year.

Tavon Mealy (Richmond, VA) led all players in the game with 24 points while and 11 rebounds for Richard Bland while Reginald Moses (Henrico, VA) added 17 points. Jhamir White (Paterson, NJ) and Brian Adkins (Aberdeen, MD) both charted 10 points each.

A trio of Red Hawks scored in double-figures in Saturday's loss. Anthony Adkins led with 13 points, following Trevin Miller with 12 points while Devonte Phillips chipped in 10 points.

The Statesmen scored first in the contest to hand RBC a 2-0 lead at the start of the contest, but Catawba would stay close throughout the first half.

Although the score was tied four times while the lead changed six times, the Statesmen would head into the locker room leading over Catawba, 42-36 at halftime.

The Statesmen opened up the second half with great momentum, the Red Hawks would have no answer as RBC would lead by as many as 20 points midway through the game to claim its ninth consecutive victory.

The win gives the Statesmen its best start on the season since the program has been reinstated.

The Statesmen will host its last game of the 2014 year on Sunday, Dec. 7th when they welcome Lenoir Community College for a Region X conference match-up. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m.
