RBC HOOPS TAKES ON PITT IN STATESMAN HALL

PETERSBURG, Va. – The No. 6 Richard Bland College men's basketball team will host Pitt Community College on Wednesday, Jan. 21, looking to recover from a 88-74 setback at home and chart their 17th win on the season in Statesman Hall. The game will tip-off at 7 p.m. and will be offering live statistics on www.rbcathletics.com.

The contest also can be heard live on Fox Sports Radio 1340 am with Steve "Da Truth" Nugent and Jerrett Brown for the Statesmen Faculty/Staff appreciation and Walnut Hill Elementary School game.

The Statesmen (16-2, 8-1 Region X), one of just three teams with one loss in league play, is coming off an 88-74 loss to Spartanburg Methodist in Spartanburg, S.C. on Sunday. In their first loss after defeating top-ranked Louisburg earlier in the week, the Statesmen struggled to find their groove offensively.

RBC shot .420 percent from the field, including .190 from beyond the arc but its defense would not be enough to save the day. Although the Statesmen made the Pioneers turn the ball over 16 times, they allowed Spartanburg Methodist to shoot .596 percent from the field while connecting 6-of-11 from beyond the arc for .545 percent.

The sophomore forward duo of Tavon Mealy (Richmond, VA) and Avery Ugba (Silver Springs, MD) led the way as Mealy netted a game-high 23 points to go along with 11 rebounds, three steals and one block, while Ugba added 17 points, a game-high 12 rebounds, two assists and one steal.

Pitt enters Wednesday's game at 10-7 overall, 6-3 in conference play after upsetting Patrick Henry Community College on the road Sunday, 55-54. Four players are averaging in double digits led by freshman Micheal Williams with 15.8 ppg. Sophomore Josh Cox and freshman Romone Adderley follow with 15.3 and 12.9 ppg while freshman Alfonzo Josey sits at 11.4 ppg, respectively.

The Bulldogs, coached by second-year head coach Darrick Mullins, is 0-3 vs. ranked teams this season, falling to No. 1 Louisburg twice (79-74 and 96-85) and No. 18 Bryant & Stratton (82-76).

RBC has won 1-of-2 since the program has been reinstated with the Bulldogs taking the first meeting (87-86) on Dec. 4, 2013 and the Statesmen taking the second matchup (91-86) on Jan. 25, 2014. The contest will be the first meeting between the two teams this season.
