STATESMEN ROLL OVER LENOIR

STATESMEN ROLL OVER LENOIR

KINSTON, N.C. – Sophomore Avery Ugba (Silver Springs, MD) posted a season-high 28 points in 99-77 victory over Lenoir Community College on Saturday.

Richard Bland (22-3, 13-2 Region X) never trailed the entire game to give the Statesmen its 22nd victory on the season.

The Statesmen coming off an 88-67 win over Brunswick, also got 16 points from sophomore Tavon Mealy (Armstrong), following freshman Reginald Moses (Henrico) with 15 points and both Pedro Berrios (Hopewell) and Troy Gibson (Heritage) charted eight points each.

Five minutes into the game, RBC jumped to a 15-6 lead. The Lancers would hang around going into intermission, 41-30.

The second half would be more of the Statesmen as Ugba brings down the rim with a monster dunk at the 14:57 mark. That dunk would give RBC an 18-point lead.

Ultimately, the Statesmen offense became too much for the Lancers as they were unable to recover from the deficit.

Richard Bland returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 11th when they host arch-rival No. 9 Louisburg for a Region X showdown in Statesman Hall. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. and all fans are asked to wear black in honor of the Statesmen blackout game.
